Name: Tournon
Variety: Shiraz (13% Alcohol)
Region: Victoria
Country: Australia
Year: 2011
My Review: This wine is ruby red with a hint of purple. It appears to be medium to thick bodied based on the legs. This wine smells very fruity, especially of cherry and blackberry. I also get a smokey aroma. This is a very thick wine, it sticks to my mouth as I swallow it. It is somewhat dry, at least compared to its aroma. The thickness hides most of the alcohol, but there is a slight burn as you swallow it. Overall it is a solid, smooth wine.
Winery Review: An exceptionally well priced Shiraz from Chapoutier / Tournon. Winemaker's Notes: The vineyards soils are composed of red ferruginous shales covering of clay. Grapes are harvested at maturity, avoiding over ripe qualities. The grapes are then destemmed and fermented in concrete or stainless steel tanks. Maceration lasts from 2 to 3 weeks in order to allow the tannins extraction that provides a good ageing potential to the wine. The wine is entirely aged in concrete or stainless steel tanks and it is bottled 12 months later. The wines color is brilliant, dark ruby. On the nose deep black fruits and pepper aromas. The palate supple and greedy with silky and elegant fine tannins. It pairs will with any kind of meat.
I did not drink this with food
I would drink this again (8/10)
