Gewürz Gewürztraminer

Tuesday, February 18, 2014

Name: Gewürz

Variety: Gewürztraminer (12.8% Alcohol)
Region: Mendocino County
Country: California
Year: 2012
Price: $11

My Review:  At first glance, this wine looks full bodied for a white wine. It is similar to the color of honey. It has a very potent smell, I smell a strong aroma of pineapple, orange, and green apple. It also has a subtle floral smell. This wine is slightly bitter with a very smooth texture, but a slight burn after I swallow it. This is one of the few wines that I have had that have a stronger aroma than flavor, a very different white wine.

Winery Review: Harvested from a small vineyard, this small production Gewürztraminer is bursting with flavor. Cold fermentation in stainless steel preserves the exotic spicy, floral nose that is nicely balanced by the wine's acidity. This classic wine has expressive flavors of grapefruit and pear along with a bit of minerality. Gewürz is delicious as an appertif and the perfect partner for spicy dishes, seafood, and holiday meals.
I did not drink this with food
I would probably drink this again
