Sancho Baron Tempranillo

Tuesday, February 25, 2014

Name: Sancho Baron

Variety: Tempranillo (14% Alcohol)
Region: Rioja
Country: Spain
Year: 2009
Price: $13

My Review:  This wine looks light to medium bodied, with a purple plum color and ruby red. It has a strong strawberry, blackberry smell with a hint of rubber. This wine tastes strongly of strawberry with a moderate amount of tannins. It is a relatively light red wine with a watery consistency. This wine balances tannins and fruit flavors very well. It is probably the lightest red wine I have ever had, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

Winery Review: Deep red color, with fresh fruit and spicy aromas. Full body with intense flavors of berries, minerals, and toasted spices. Rich and smooth, long and persistent. Best with meats and cheese.

Creme De Lys Chardonnay

Tuesday, February 25, 2014

Name: Creme De Lys

Variety: Chardonnay (13.5% Alcohol)
Region: Sonoma, California
Country: United States
Year: 2012
Price: $10

My Review:  At first glance, this wine appears to be golden with a hint of green. It also appears to be on the thicker side of white wines. This wine has sweet aromas with pear, apple, and banana. This wine has a very rich, creamy texture with a buttery taste. It masks the alcohol content very well

Winery Review: Slow down, exhale, and enjoy this rich, creamy Chardonnay. You deserve it! Our winemaker chose California vineyards that yield incredibly lush flavors of tropical fruit, baked apple, and citrus. Sur lie aging gives this wine its soft, creamy style. Aging nine months, primarily on French oak, adds hints of vanilla and creme brulee on the finish, making this wine the perfect reward at the end of your day.

Anne Delaroche Cotes du Rhone

Tuesday, February 25, 2014

Name: Anne Delaroche

Variety: 50% Syrah, 40% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre (13.5% Alcohol)
Region: Rhone Valley
Country: France
Year: 2011
Price: $11

My Review:  This appears to be a medium bodied wine that is the color of raspberries, plum and grape jelly. This has a fruity aroma of strawberries and blackberries, and also a slight caramel aroma. This wine has a slight smokey flavor and has a little more alcoholic burn than I would have liked. There are a decent amount of tannins.

Winery Review: Clear ruby wine with overtones of red berry fruits. Round and supple with smooth finish. A good all round red wine for meat courses, poultry and light cheeses. Best drunk now while fresh with good keeping up to four years.

Red Diamond Merlot

Monday, February 24, 2014

Name: Red Diamond

Variety: Merlot (13.5% Alcohol)
Region: Paterson, Washington
Country: United States
Year: 2011
Price: $8

My Review: This is a medium bodied wine with a deep crimson, slight brown and plum colored. It has a very distinct smell, it smells strongly of burnt wood and caramel. I do not like the taste of this wine very much, it is bitter without having any sweet component to balance it out.

Winery Review: Red Diamond sources grapes from the best locations around the world to reveal the distinct personalities of outstanding varieties. Our Merlot is a shining example of Washington's best varietal - a polished wine with softly-spiced black cherry, berry, and plum flavors. Reveal your Red Side with Red Diamond Merlot.
