Santa Julia Malbec

Monday, April 21, 2014

Name: Santa Julia

Variety: Malbec (13.5% Alcohol)
Region: Mendoza
Country: Argentina
Year: 2013
Price: $10

My Review: This wine appears to be medium bodied and is ruby red in color.  This wine does not have a strong aroma, but I do smell dark fruit and a decent amount of oak.  This wine is very sweet; I taste the fruit, but there is a hint of green beans on the mid palate that I am not a fan of.  Other than the green bean flavor, this is a very smooth tasty wine.

Winery Review: This purple-red wine is packed with ripe fruit flavors of plum, cherry, and strawberries with hints of chocolate and a spicy finish.  It will pair well with steaks, burgers, and pastas with red sauces.

Newman's Own Merlot

Monday, April 21, 2014

Name: Newman's Own

Variety: Merlot (13% Alcohol)
Region: Napa Valley, California
Country: United States
Year: 2011
Price: $10

My Review: This wine is a dark maroon color that appears to be medium bodied with moderate legs.  This wine smells like raspberries, cherries, and plum.  There is also a slight Earthy, dirty aroma.  This wine is  a little too thin for me, but it is very sweet and smooth.

Winery Review: Made with grapes sourced from premier California vineyards, our luscious Merlot is rich and robust on the palate with deep berry and currant flavors followed by a velvety, plush finish.
